What: AFRICAN HOPE FOUNDATION OF GHANA is a not-for-profit organization, dedicated to improving the lives of people who have been infected with HIV/AIDS. In 1998, it was founded as a non-governmental organization within the Kumasi region of Ghana, West Africa. Apart from working with individuals who have been infected with HIV/AIDS this organizations is committed to assisting local initiatives to achieve sustainable development.


AHFOG philosophy seeks to strengthen marginalized communities, women and youth to realize their own strengths and how they can be applied to face the different challenges of the world. AHFOG helps to empower vulnerable individuals to make a livelihood on a sustainable basis and live in dignity.

They are committed to educating and preventing the greater spread of STIs and HIV/AIDS. In addition they try to assist those in marginalized communities to develop sustainable skills for a better quality of life.

Volunteer duties:
AHFOG currently runs an all girls vocational institute that is in need of volunteers to teach academics (English, math, business, health and hygiene) to the students.

Volunteers can also assist in giving HIV/AIDS education presentations to the commercial sex workers, people living with HIV/AIDS, or schools groups. Administratively, volunteers could assist with office duties, promotional materials, and updating information for the website.

Teaching at the Gisela Wurth-Boahen Vocational Institute (girls ages 14-25) in basic academics: English, Math, Business, Science, etc. Home-based visitation of HIV Patients. Facilitating in Peer education and Public education on HIV/AIDS (to different vulnerable groups). Assisting in the office (typing proposals, creating promotional materials, etc.)

A bit about Volunteer Abroad

Volunteer Abroad is owned by the Canadian Federation of Students (a not-for-profit student organization founded in 1981 that currently unites more than 450,000 colleges and students across Canada). As part of this student movement, Volunteer Abroad connects motivated people with not-for-profit organizations, communities and government agencies in need of assistance around the world.

Participants come from all types of backgrounds. Students have integrated their volunteering efforts into their curriculum earning credits at their university, college or high school, while others have been professionals, gap year students or recent retirees looking to take some time off and offer their skills and knowledge to those who need it.
