In the Republic of Turkey what am I looking for? A true Turkish delight that's what!

My trip will take me to timeless destinations that bustle with modern city life, but are still steeped in history. I will be transported from the comforts of my Canadian home to the new comforts of this vast, culturally rich land. Travelling from Europe to Asia in one step, sail the Mediterranean, climb mountains in Cappadocia and whirl with the Dervishes! Turkey has ancient Roman ruins, beautiful coastlines and beaches, bustling cities and some of the friendliest people in the world.

Choosing the tour with one of my favorite operators Intrepid Travel is the first step to ensuring I have a well organized, interesting and relaxing trip. As a single traveler I will have the comfort of being a part of a small group but the freedom to not be part of the herd if I choose to do something without them. I will also meet new like-minded people who will share this amazing experience with me.

After much research I have chosen to take the Best of Turkey tour, which highlights most of eastern Turkey.

The first stop is to the big city of Istanbul. Here, the city tour gets everyone familiar with each other and the city. The main sights are not part of the itinerary so I will have time to visit the Aya Sofia, Topkapi Palace and the grand Bazaar at my own pace.

The nest stop is Bursa, the ancient Ottoman capital and the journey back in time begins. I will leave my inhibitions at home and relax in a traditional Turkish bath, later I might drop into a local teahouse. Over the next days I visit Selcuk and will learn the secrets of making delicious gozleme - a Turkish pastry I hope I will like. I can take another dip in the healing thermal waters of the nearby hot springs of Hierapolis. In Kayakoy I will take a half-day trek along the rugged coastline of the Lycian Way, the days later I will depart from Kas to cruise over an ancient sunken city, explore Lycian tombs and sleep under the stars. Then stop off in Ucagiz, to experience life in a traditional farming and fishing village. I'm eager to learn more about the Whirling Dervish sect of Islam by visiting Mevlana Museum in Konya. I've decided to treat myself to the optional hot air balloon ride over Cappadocia so I can get a better look at the amazing rock mushroom shaped rock formations that this area is famous for. Afterwards I can dine with a local family and experience a unique slice of Turkish life. Then it's an overnight train back to Istanbul where I will finish my time with my new friends at a traditional hamam.

After the main tour is done I will take a few extra days to relax and unwind in the sleepy seaside town of Agva – an Intrepid independent trip. This will let me enjoy some time to myself, and savor the last bit of my trip before returning home.

Come join me as I explore Turkey or ask me how I can create the perfect trip for you.
