"Before I went to Ethiopia I knew there was a lot of history and culture but I had no idea how amazing this country was until I stepped off the plane in Addis Ababa. Ethiopia is truly an undiscovered gem. From walking through the busy markets, viewing the Gelada Monkeys up close and personal, hiking the Simien Mountains to the churches carved out of the mountains in Lalibela, this country and it’s people will captivate and excite you.

This truly was one of the best trips I have ever done. I feel lucky to have seen it before they pave the roads! I would suggest to anyone thinking of going to Ethiopia that they should go now before the rest of the world discovers it!"
- Jennifer Patterson

Today we go on a guided tour around the city, visiting various sites including St George's Cathedral, the site of Emperor Haile Selassie's coronation, as well as the Merkato, East Africa's largest market.
3 LALIBELA:
We fly to Lalibela today, home to a spectacular collection of churches hewn out of the surrounding rock, so astounding that many believe they are the creations of angels. We'll visit the churches within the town today.
4 LALIBELA:
Heading out into the surrounding countryside, we travel along dirt tracks visiting some of the churches that lie nearby, all made from the rock and dating back to around the twelfth century. (BD)
5 AXUM:
Today we fly to Axum, a once great city that was under the control of the Queen of Sheba. Axum is home to many fascinating tombs and churches, and has an unusual collection of stelae dating back to the third and fourth centuries.
