What I liked about the destination:

This trip is a great option for a short break - and best of all it doesn't break the budget! It has a good mix of Mayan ruins, colonial cities and beaches for snorkeling and diving. I've always wanted to travel more in Central America, and this well-organized trip allowed us to cover a lot of ground while still travelling like a local.

Highlights for me were the colonial city of Antigua, the Mayan ruins of Tikal, the backwaters of the Rio Dulce and the amazing snorkeling at Caye Caulker in Belize. In ten days we covered a lot of ground, and yet we had time to relax as well - much better than just sitting on a beach at a resort for two weeks. I highly recommend adding on an additional day at the beginning to wander in Antigua, plus a few days at the end along the Mayan Riviera to bring the whole trip up to the fourteen day traditional break.

Be prepared for some funky modes of transport as this is one of Tucan's Adventurer trips, which means they do use local transport and the road from Guatemala to Belize is pretty rough – but that's all part of the adventure! I'm glad I went and can't wait to go back and explore more of Central America - perhaps heading south from Guatemala next time!
