Tour: Guerba: Serengeti Trail and Kilimanjaro
Duration: 15 days
Cost: $2260.00 CAD plus local payment of $750.00 USD

"I got up the mountain and back down again in one piece – a miracle really. Seeing the Big 5 in their own environment was so amazing. Being in a small group also was really great as you didn't have to fight for room to take a picture. I did have a Lioness roar at me when I took a picture of her cub. Scary!!!"

ITINERARY:

Day 1-2: NAIROBI/KISII
Explore the colourful streets of Nairobi before you board a safari truck and cross the Great Rift Valley to Kenya's tea growing region.

Day 3: LAKE VICTORIA
Watch the sunset over Africa's largest lake from the comfort of the campsite.

Day 4-5: SERENGETI
Photograph the abundant wildlife of the Serengeti such as lions, cheetahs, elephants, and zebras. It is also possible to take an early morning balloon safari as an optional excursion.

Day 6: NGORONGORO CRATER
Visit Olduvai Gorge, home to earliest man, before continuing to a spectacular campsite overlooking the Ngorongoro Crater.

Day 7: MTO WA MBU
Search the crater for the endangered black rhino and spot many other African animals on the way. Camp in the market village of Mto Wa Mbu. Wander through the markets and bargain for some memorable gifts, such as ebony makonde carvings.

Day 8: ARUSHA
Leave behind the overland vehicle and crew in Arusha, at the base of Mt Meru.

Day 9: KILIMANJARO BASE
Travel past snow-capped mountains to the foothills of Mt Kilimanjaro. There is time here to have gear checked, relax in the pool or dine on the hotel's famous four course meals.

Day 10: MANDARA HUT
Trek from Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut through dense rainforest where monkeys and brightly coloured birds can often be seen.

Day 11: HOROMBO HUT
Rainforest gives way to rolling alpine meadow and giant heather on this slightly steeper stretch.

Day 12: KIBO HUT
The terrain becomes more rugged and rocky. Skirt Mawenzi Peak and cross the lunar landscape of the saddle. The remainder of the day is spent resting in preparation for the final ascent.

Day 13: SUMMIT
Zig-zag up a large scree slope to reach the highest point in Africa at Uhuru Peak. After taking every possible photo of the dramatic views, begin the mountain descent.

Day 14-15: MARANGU/KILIMANJARO AIRPORT
A warm shower and cold beer await on the return to the hotel in Marangu. Finish the adventure at either Kilimanjaro Airport or Nairobi
