Costa Rica Encompassed (TUT) - 14 days

Costa RicaThe ultimate journey for nature lovers who want to experience Costa Rica’s complete spectrum from outstanding national parks to active volcanoes, exceptional beaches, coral reef and a plethora of wildlife.

Itinerary

Day: Description:
1-5 Arrive San José - Arenal Volcano - La Fortuna - Santa Elena - Monteverde Cloud Forest
Leaving San José we travel north to La Fortuna, at the base of the rumbling Volcano Arenal. With luck we will witness lava flowing from the crater and there are plenty of options for horse riding, white water rafting and hiking. Climbing up into the cool misty mountains, Santa Elena is our base for visiting the magnificent Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve with numerous species of birds including the rare quetzal. Options include a sky walk on platforms high up in the canopy or the ‘Skytrek’ where you can swing from tree to tree!
6-10 Quepos - Manuel Antonio National Park - Pacific Coast - San José
Travelling via the town of Quepos we come to Manuel Antonio National Park on the Pacific coast. The National Park offers spectacular beaches, great hikes and the chance to see an abundance of wildlife including monkeys and iguanas. Heading across the country to the Caribbean coast we stop en route at San José.
11-14 Tortuguero National Park & Jungle - Caribbean Coast - Cahuita - Puerto Viejo - San José
From San José we travel by bus to Límon where we join our boat and travel into Tortuguero. The national park is a major site for turtle nesting and we also hope to see crocodiles, sloths and poison arrow frogs. Skirting the coastline we reach the laid back town of Cahuita, where you can laze on the black and white sand beaches or swim out to a sunken Spanish galleon. There is the option to visit nearby tranquil Puerto Viejo, which has great beaches, diving and surf. Our journey takes us back to the cultural capital of San Jose with many great restaurants and bars. Day 14, Depart San José
