Mt. Kilimanjaro, Africa's tallest mountain. Soaring to the impressive altitude of 5,895 metres or 19,350 feet, it affords incredible views of hundreds of square kilometres of surrounding countryside as well as of the mountain peaks, valleys and glaciers around you. The thrill of reaching the summit of Kilimanjaro gives one an unsurpassed sense of achievement.

Overnight and breakfast will be at the Impala Hotel.

Dinner and overnight will be at the lodge or tented camp.
3 After breakfast drive to Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Lunch will be at the lodge. This afternoon, you will descend 2000 feet (over 600 meters) to the floor of the crater for a day crater tour with picnic lunches. Explore the forest areas that are inhabited by monkeys and elephants, the lake area, where you may see the flamingos and the open savannah where the lions hunt for food.
Dinner and overnight will be at the lodge.
4 Drive to Serengeti National Park via Olduvai Gorge, the site of Louis and Mary Leakey’s renowned archaeological discoveries. Their findings include some of the man’s earliest known ancestral remains. Lunch will be at the lodge in Serengeti. You will have an afternoon game drive in the endless plains of the Serengeti for a chance to see the great herds of wildebeest, zebras and gazelles or a pride of lions lounging in the shade.
Dinner and overnight will be at the lodge.
5 Enjoy a full day of game viewing in the Serengeti.
Meals and overnight will be at the lodge.
6 Enjoy a full day of game viewing in the Serengeti.
Meals and overnight will be at the lodge.
7 Enjoy an early morning game drive, before returning to the lodge for a late breakfast. We will then depart to the Ngorongoro Highlands/Lake Manyara area. Lunch will be at Gibbs Farm or similar with an afternoon visit to the waterfalls.
Dinner and overnight will be at the lodge.
8 After breakfast, you will have a morning game drive in Lake Manyara National Park whose inhabitants include hippos, monkeys, tree climbing lions, flamingos and other varieties of birdlife. After lunch we will drive back to Arusha. And then on to Moshi where upon arrival at the base hotel where you will overnight in preparation. Climbers will meet with the Guide and get a full briefing for your climb the next day.
9 After breakfast around 7:00am, you will be transferred to the Rongai Gate. It is approximately 3 - 4hrs drive from Moshi to the Gate. The climb begins from the attractive wooden village of Nale Moru (1,950 m.). It is a 6km walk, on a small path that winds through fields of maize and potatoes before entering pine forest. The track then starts to climb consistently, but gently through attractive forest that shelters a variety of wildlife, including the beautiful Kilimanjaro Colobus monkey. These monkeys are black with a long ‘cape’ of white hair and a flowing white tail. The forest begins to thin out and the first camp is at the edge of the moorland zone (2,600 m.) with extensive views over the Kenyan plains. Most clients like to stay at SIMBA CAMPSITE or 1ST CAVE CAMPSITE also. [3-4 hours walking]
10 10 The morning walk is a steady ascent up to the ‘Second Cave’ (3,450 m). It is a 5km walk, with superb views of Kibo and the Eastern ice fields on the crater rim. Our campsite (2nd CAVES CAMPSITE) is in a sheltered valley with giant scenarios (3600 m.) [5-7 hours walking]
11 Today you will have a short but steep climb. It is 5kms up grassy slopes and you are rewarded by superb all round views and a tangible sense of wilderness. We leave vegetation behind shortly before reaching the next camp at Mawenzi Tarn (4,330 m.). The afternoon will be free to rest or explore the surrounding area as an aid to acclimatization. Overnight 3rd Cave Campsite [3-4 hours walking]
12 We cross the lunar desert of the ‘Saddle’ between Mawenzi and Kibo to reach KIBO CAMPSITE (4,750 m.) at the bottom of the Kibo crater wall. The remainder of the day is spent resting in preparation for the final ascent before a very early night! (7kms) [3-4 hours walking]
13 We will start the final, and by far the steepest and most demanding, part of the climb by torchlight around 1 a.m. We plod very slowly in the darkness on a switchback trail through loose volcanic scree to reach the crater rim at Gillman’s Point (5,685 m.). We will rest there for a short time to enjoy the spectacular sunrise over Mawenzi. Those who are still feeling strong can make the three hour round trip to Uhuru Peak (5,896 m.), passing close to the spectacular glaciers and ice cliffs that still occupy most of the summit area. The descent to Kibo (4,700 m.) is surprisingly fast and, after some refreshment, we continue the descent to reach our final Campsite at Horombo (Horombo Campsite) (3,720 m.). [10-11 hours walking]. Total distance walking from KIBO Hut to Summit is aprox. 10 - 11kms and Summit (Uhuru to Horombo aprox. 8kms)
14 14 A steady descent takes us down through moorland to Mandara Hut (2,700m.), the first stopping place at the Marangu route. We then continue descending through lovely lush forest on a good path to the National Park gate at Marangu (1,830 m.). You will be met by a driver and be transferred to the base hotel for an overnight.
15 Depart for the airport or other destinations in Tanzania or Kenya. Zanzibar is a great way to recuperate.
