Trans-Mongolian Express Eastbound – (ITR) |
| Duration: |
21 Days |
| Cost: |
$2,930 USD |
"The Trans-Mongolian is an epic train journey that begins in Europe and cuts through a large swath of Asia, while traversing three of the largest countries in the world. This trip is the best way to truly experience Russia and to get a taste of Mongolia and China.
Russia is an extremely diverse country, as it straddles two continents. On the European side, the cities of St. Petersburg and Moscow are two of the most expensive cities in the world. Filled with breathtaking architecture, and overflowing with history and character, they are cities not to be missed and are like no place else. As you enter Asia, the distinction between the two Russias becomes evident-- Eastern Russia is a different world. Siberia is extremely beautiful, barren, and sparsely populated. A Siberian highlight is visiting Lake Baikal, the deepest freshwater lake in the world.
After departing Lake Baikal and Siberia, the train winds its way into Mongolia, where the people are extremely friendly and the weather is simply extreme. Highlights of Mongolia include staying at a ger camp and riding through the countryside on a Mongolian horse.
Before you know it, you’re on your way to China. Beijing is a bustling, chaotic metropolis. In preparation for the 2008 Olympics, the city is in a constant state of reconstruction. A day trip to the Great Wall is a highlight of the trip and is something that cannot be missed. For a little added excitement, try going up the wall by cable car and down the wall in a wheeled toboggan!
The Trans-Mongolian is the trip of a lifetime, and a journey you will not soon forget.
