"In February 2007, I embarked on this trip. It was a fascinating tour, and I was surprised how undeveloped Morocco still is as a tourist destination. As I traveled the country, I noticed little traffic on the roads and barely a plane in the sky. We visited fairly remote destinations as we journeyed from Casablanca to Marrakech in an 18-seat minibus, and I found the people friendly and honest. Morocco is one of those countries that is hard to capture with a lens - often the photos you take don't really do it justice. I think the overall feeling of safety you get from the locals and by being on an escorted tour, allows you to really enjoy the sensation of being in an exotic location in Africa. Winter is very much the perfect time to visit Morocco, with temperatures barely reaching 80 degrees and the chance of snowfall at higher altitudes. During the rest of the year, Morocco can get extremely hot, so it's advisable to avoid traveling there in the summertime.
Highlights of the tour included three nights in Fes, probably the most complete example of medieval Islamic society in the Arab world; a night in the dunes in the Sahara Desert; and a visit to the stunning Todra Gorge (25 miles of palm groves lined by 1,000-feet high cliffs and 18th-century mud houses). The trip was enhanced by the four- and five-star hotels in which we stayed-a feature of the Connoisseur tour style. I couldn't recommend this tour more highly. And, if you don't eat meat, you'll get by on Berber omelettes and veggie tagines the whole time!
