Description: |
| 1-2 |
Mexico City
Overflowing with people and life, Mexico City has its fair share of must-see sights. A good place to start is the city centre, which still beats to the pulse of Mexico's Aztec heart. Wander through streets lined with temple ruins and colonial cathedrals. In the evenings live it up Mexican-style and head out for a night of mariachi music. |
| 3-4 |
Puebla
The day starts with a ride on one of Mexico's colourful buses and gets even more vibrant from there. Puebla is famous for its hand-painted tiles and handicrafts. When the backpack is filled with mementos from the markets, try some of the mouth-watering Mole Poblano or head out for a hike near one of the area's volcanoes. |
| 5-6 |
Oaxaca
See the grand colonial cathedral and Santa Domingo church in the lovely city of Oaxaca. Just outside of town are the impressive Zapotec ruins of Monte Alban. |
| 7-8 |
Cristobal de las Casas
While San Cristobal is home to some stunning colonial sights, this region feels far removed from the cities of the lowlands. Up in the hills, the air is cooler, the terrain is wilder and the jungle is scattered with ancient ruins and traditional villages. |
| 9-10 |
Palenque
The ruins of Palenque are some of the most beautiful Mayan sites in Mexico. Climb the temples for views of the thick Chiapas jungle and the riotous wildlife that call it home. |
| 11-12 |
Merida
Head along the Yucatan Peninsula to Merida. Known locally as the 'white city', this is an ideal base from which to visit the Uxmal Ruins. For fun a bit closer to home, tour the city centre in a caleche, a horse-drawn carriage, or learn some dance moves from the locals. |
| 13-15 |
Playa del Carmen
Stand in awe of the huge pyramids of Chichen Itza before following the scent of fresh sea air to Playa del Carmen. The final days of this adventure are played out by the Caribbean. Snorkel and dive on reefs, cruise to nearby islands and contemplate the palm-fringed beaches with a margarita in hand. |
